SOCIAL RECREATION PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Community Explorations
Do you like to go on outings? If so, then this is the program for you! Once a month, join us as we explore different community locations. Participants will strengthen skills in appropriate social behavior, social etiquette, money management and leisure education. Registration fee covers for supervision. Participant outing admission fee is not included. Drop off and pick up will be in front of the outing location. Pre-registration is required for each separate outing. Ages 18 and older. Individuals must be able to participate with minimal supervision. 1:8 ratio is provided. Please call (408) 348-6165 for specific outing locations and registration information.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Classes are offered as one-on-one or small group sessions that will be done in participants' homes. Classes are scheduled based on participant and Therapeutic Recreation Specialist availability. Please call (408) 348-6165 to schedule classes or for more information.
Kids In Motion
This creative dance/movement class is designed for a parent and child to participate together. Class will focus on gross motor coordination, creativity, self-expression. Use of props, such as streamers, scarves, and maracas will be incorporated. One adult must participate with each child. Ages 2-5 years. Class time: 45 minutes.
Movin' and Groovin"
It's time to move to the beat of the music! This creative dance/movement class will focus on gross motor coordination, self-expression, creativity, balance, spatial awareness and directionality. Ages 5 and older. Class time: 45 minutes for ages 5-12. 1 hour for ages 13 and older.
Sweat It Out!
Let's get your heart pumping and your body in shape! This fitness class will consist of stretching, aerobic routines, neighborhood walks and toning. Ages 13 and older. Class time: 1 hour
Meet the Therapeutic Recreation Staff
Susan, RTC Owner/Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
Susan possess a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Recreation Administration with a Concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from San Jose State University. She is a State Certified Recreation Therapist. She has over 20 years of experience working with individuals with special needs. Susan has been working for City of Santa Clara, Parks and Recreation Department - Therapeutic Recreation Services as a Therapeutic Recreation Coordinator and Dance Instructor for 18 years.
